Gorilla tracking in Rwanda & DRC
If you could see a long string of lakes, north from Lake Albert and all the way down to Lake Kivu in Rwanda and Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. To the east you would see the world's second largest water reservoir – Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile. Most geologists, zoologists, historians and botanists believe it is the most interesting area in all of Africa: The Albertine Rift Valley.
Day 1
Ankomst Kigali
We arrive in Kigali late in the evening and stay at Hotel Des Mille Collins.
Day 2
Nyungwe National Park and into the DRC
After an early breakfast we travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park to track chimpanzees. In the afternoon we continue to the border crossing into DRC and check into a hotel in Goma.
Day 3
Gorilla tracking in Virunga National Park
Today is the big day where you will track mountain gorillas for the first time in Virunga National Park. After a quick review of the day's activities, we head into the forest to search for the gorillas.
Day 4
Nyiragongo
We travel to Kibatsi which is located at the foot of the Nyiragongo volcano. It takes about 5 hours to walk up to the crater rim which is located at 3470m. Here you can see straight down into the world's largest lava lake and have beautiful views of Goma, the Rwenzori Mountains, Kahuzi Biega National Park, Bwindi Forest in Uganda and Lake Kivu. We spend the night in simple huts on the crater rim.
Dag 5
Tchegera Island
Etter et siste blikk på vulkansjøen under deg begynner vi å rusle ned fra fjellet. Vel nede reiser vi til Kituku havn og tar båt ut til Tchegera på Lake Kivu.
Day 6
Tchegera Island
We spend the whole day on the island, hiking, paddling and snorkeling. This is paradise!
Day 7
Rwanda
We leave the island after a good breakfast and travel back to Rwanda.
Day 8
Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, we travel to Kinigi and go through the formalities before we can start moving into the forest to track mountain gorillas.
Day 9
Golden monkey og Akagera nasjonalpark
We track down the Golden monkey before leaving Volcanoes National Park and traveling on safari to Akagera National Park.
Dag 10
Akagera National Park
After an early breakfast we set off on our first safari. We see giraffe, buffalo, elephant, zebra, antelopes, etc.
Day 11
Akagera National Park
Vi er på safari i nasjonalparken hele dagen. Båtsafari på Lake Ihema der vi ser krokodiller, flodhester og et yrende fugleliv.
Day 12
Kigali - home
We leave Akagera quickly after breakfast and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site before arriving at the hotel for the night.
